The first local MTB in our area is in the books. 331 Racing hosted the 2010 Dr. Knob Easter Egg MTB Race at Vulture's Knob on Sat, April 11. Perfect weather. Great turnout. Lots of fun for everyone. Team Lake Effect racer Zach Johnson started off the racing in great form by winning the kids' race. Way to go Zach! Emily Clark (daughter of Ross and Tiffany Clark) won the girl's race. Shortly after the kids race, the racers were staged and after a short dog fight, literally, the expert, sport and novice classes were off! The race started very quickly - with a couple of crashes before the completion of the prologue. Unfortunately, Robert had a mechanical very early and had to abandon - can't race without a chain! Team Lake Effect had 4 racers in the expert division - led by Johnny Proppe, Kyle Spisak, Luke Spisak, and Todd Bolgrin. The experts did 3 laps in under 2 hours. Wow. In the sport division, Team Lake Effect had Robert in the U19 (combined with the U29), and Rudy in the Masters 50+. Robert was doing great and was wheel to wheel with the eventual leader until his chain decided to go AWOL. Rudy rode very well and very smoothly. Rudy won his division and I think the Sport overall as well. 331 arranged for Chipolte and Monster energy drinks which was a big hit. Best of all, there were no cry baby wanna bes at the race. What a nice change - hopefully it will stay that way.
